Change

Change can be traumatic for anyone; when something or someone that has been a part of our life is no longer there anymore it can send us into a spiral of confusion. We don’t like change – even when it’s for the better: it’s in our nature to stick to what we know. I don’t know about you, but I sometimes feel like someone is out to get me and that there is some sort of conspiracy. Of course there isn’t, it’s simply life being life and it’s the same for everyone. When shit happens we automatically take it personally, without actually thinking about the bigger picture. We always think the worst and that isn’t always the case, the outcome is what we choose it to be and not what we think is will be. Seeing sense or thinking logically is far out of sight – we grab on to the only thing we can rely on in times like this because fear blinds us , we can’t see anything else. We lack faith in our own abilities, we don’t – as a species – deal with change very well, we fight it even when it can benefit us, we are scared of the unknown and its holding us back from achieving greatness. We are all good at something wether we know what that thing is or not. We are all capable of great things if we allow ourselves to believe. Our education system sadly lacks the ability to teach us these skills and this is a problem we must face and rectify if we are ever to improve or evolve positively as a race. Recently, one of my projects has come to a screeching halt without even getting off the ground and it’s bloody frustrating I can tell you. However, I’m not disappointed or angry with myself or the situation, because I know I did my best. Even though I went into it with my eyes closed, not really knowing the full scale of what I was letting myself in for (and I should have known better), I was excited, caught up in the moment. I have learned what not to do and that is a positive attitude, it’s the willingness to see when we are out of our depth and willingness to admit to ourselves – and everyone else. Its taking responsibility for the situation and owning it, not it owning us. Then, out of the blue another of my projects closer to my heart has been given a boost and I can see it achieving everything I wish it to be – and more. I realise now that if I hadn’t had my eyes open to the positivity that was coming in from another direction, I may have missed my opportunity whilst feeling sorry for myself. We are all presented with daily opportunities, we just don’t recognise them until they pass us by as we are too busy fretting over situations out of our control. Being a part of Byw has helped me take back all of myself from the horrors we call life: Byw has given me the tools to ride out the storms and become who I truly believe I can be, Byw has given me the confidence to stand up and have a voice that is heard and most importantly, Byw has opened my eyes to the power of the positive thinking and action. Byw can be used as a vehicle to empower others to achieve their goals and ambitions. Change is good; it helps us grow and learn. We shouldn’t have fear of it, we should embrace it with open arms and encourage its growth. Here at Byw we want that change to be one of unity and confidence for all of us.

Time Out

We all want success in one way or another and I’m the biggest advocate for never giving up, but sometimes we have to give up on things. Not because we want to, but because we have to. Have you ever had that feeling in your stomach when you know something is right? The opposite can also happen when something is not quite right. You know that feeling you get in your stomach that just won’t go away? That’s our gut instinct; it is real, I can assure you of that (you don’t have to have been bitten by a radioactive spider to have spider senses). There is nothing wrong with giving up on things as long as we have learned a lesson. If you have learned, then success has still been obtained; it’s when we keep making the same mistakes over and over and over again that poses a problem. Knowing that energy or time could be spent doing something more accessible and learned, then afterwards – if you believe strongly in what you were doing – going back with more knowledge and experience and trying again is worthwhile. We can all too often rush into things before finding out all the information, ultimately giving ourselves a bad experience along the way. If like me you have half a dozen projects or goals on the go all at the same time, it’s easy to get caught up in all the excitement and start agreeing to do everything that comes our way. We start believing that we are invincible – and this we are not. We are flesh and blood, and at times we have to stop, take stock and start afresh with a clearer and healthy mind and body. What is the point of having everything you have ever dreamed of if you are not able to enjoy it to the fullest? We must remember to take care of ourselves as well as taking care of business. I’m not even talking about mindfulness or meditation here, I’m talking about good old fashioned rest, time away from everything – and even everyone if need be. As long as it’s ourselves that are number one on our to-do list we’re taking care of what’s important, but then again, a little bit of meditation won’t do any harm.

The Problem is the Answer

Over the last year or so I have been studying a lot of subjects regarding human behaviour, and it’s shocking to find such a lack of confidence in so many of us. It saddens me to see how little human beings value themselves, and are so willing to settle for what’s just put in front of them as if that is all they deserve. I live in a small community that has seen its soul ripped out by the government and the collapse of its social identity; it’s heart breaking to see day in day out with no sign of change. I believe nothing is unsalvageable, and that if people want change, it’s up to us to make it – it all starts with confidence. I believe we should question authority at every junction and stand up for what’s right for everyone, not just the few. We are supposedly living in a democracy, but when 60% of the electorate don’t vote due to lack of representation, democratic is the last thing we are. So why, why is it this way and what can we do to rectify it – if we can do anything at all? If you are a regular reader to my blog then you know why I do what I do: because I feel we are all worth the effort, I believe we are all equal and deserve to be treated that way and it’s time we all stood up and demanded the respect we all deserve. We rely on the government to run everything, we rely and accept what they say and do – even when we know that it’s wrong or unjust – as long as it’s not affecting us directly. This my friends, this is our downfall as everything affects us. I live in Wales and I love my country, but I see a country that doesn’t love itself any more. I see a country where the people have no true passion or belief any longer, and I want to change that, I want to give it back its true identity. I want my country to be a nation of “we can” and not “we can not”. We are known in Wales as a sporting nation: rugby is our game, and when it comes to the game my country men and women are passionate – but it’s a passion of convenience, a false passion, it’s a passion of distraction. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not putting anyone down; as I said, I love my country and my fellow man, I simply wish they too would love themselves when it really matters instead of hiding behind the fear of responsibility. I see this happening all around the world, it’s not just in my homeland, it’s a worldwide epidemic. So how do I suggest putting things right, correcting the wrongs? How do we reconnect with each other and take back what is rightfully ours? Responsibility: we all like to pass the buck, that’s all of us from the bottom to the top. We all like to shed real responsibility – it’s never our fault when things are going pear-shaped, we have become disconnected from each other and it’s our disconnection that’s the problem. I genuinely love the human race, we are an incredibly intelligent species; look how far we have evolved over the last few centuries – it’s astonishing. But in all that time we have also started to lose our ability to use common sense. As humans we feel the need to question everything, and whilst I believe that’s good, a positive step forward, it’s our reactions to the answers that creates our problem. Instead of going with our gut instincts we are happy to let those in authority determine our beliefs, whether we agree with them or not. It seems to have always been this way as I have said, I suppose it’s easier for us not to take responsibility when nothing is our fault. I feel a connection with people everyday – it hasn’t always been there but each day it’s getting stronger. I don’t know exactly what it is or where it’s come from, but it excites me and it makes me feel alive. I know I’m not the only person that feels this way, there are thousands, if not millions of people around the world who feel like I do, and in the world of the internet they are easily found if we really want to find them. The problem is how do we all connect together and teach a world how to believe in itself again in a united front of humanity? How do we put aside our differences and see each other for what we really are – brothers and sisters? We shouldn’t be fighting one another, we should be working together to solve the problems that really threaten us; like disease, hunger, war and greed. We produce enough food to feed everyone on the planet almost twice over, yet still one in nine of us are starving and this my friends, is actually disgraceful. We waste more food than we consume, and in the process kill millions – if not billions – of animals to satisfy our demands for choice and convenience, and yet again we shun the responsibility for it all. We can change things, we can make a difference, we can make this world a better place by sharing with one another, and by reconnecting on a spiritual level instead of an ideological one. We need to learn to care again, we need to see our similarities and not our differences. I practice a form of mindfulness and meditation every day, and it has not only given me happiness and peace within, it’s also given me the ability to see that I’m not always right about things. It’s opened my eyes to a world full of wonder, it’s opened my eyes to the possibility of a world full of love. If we want change in the world then we need to be it, we need to take responsibility – not only for ourselves, but for the goodwill and progression of the human race on this little planet called Earth. We are the problem and the answer, all we need now is to have the courage to do something about it.

Alone, not Lonely

I know there are some that think I have lost my marbles and that’s ok with me, I find it funny: funny in the sense that maybe I have lost them, maybe I’m living in my own little universe and if this is the case then hey, thumbs up, I’m a winner. When we don’t understand something we usually brush it off or mock it, or – even worse – turn on it and attack it. We are seeing it happen all over the world right now with all the political and religious differences. So why, why do we do this? Why can’t we see or accept differences in others? Fear; fear of the unknown, fear of being wrong, even fear of being right. The people at the top live in fear of losing everything and the people at the bottom fear not having anything, and at the same time they fear each other. It’s a roundabout of fear no matter where you are in life. But what is it we really fear and why is it in control of our lives with such a strong grip? I’m not saying I have the answers to life’s big questions; I don’t think any one person has, but I want to at least look at them and give my interpretation on how I see the world, so here goes on the fear of being alone:I’ve done this myself and still do it to some extent – along with almost every person I know. We all rely on someone or something to give us fulfillment. Be it a job, sport, family, a relationship, drink or drugs, we all have something that makes us happy, but sadly it’s not real. At least it’s not for the majority. I think about it this way: I like my own company and over time, spending time alone has made me a better human being. “Why?” I have no fear of myself and being mindful and having gratitude has been my salvation. Being in our own company can be petrifying for some and I understand why; our mind can be cruel and vindictive when it wants to be, it can eat us alive with inner dialogue running us down, convincing us of untruths about ourselves. It’s no wonder we look for reassurance from outside sources – we need something to believe in. But we forget that we are magical beings, each and every one of us, and we have become lost in the game of life by falling for the the oldest trick in the book of “needing”. We need to feel successful or a part to something. I’m not a loner, far from it; I have friends from all walks of life, I like people, I like being around people. I’d say I’m a people person and I think it’s my inner peace that allows me to be comfortable in the daily situations I find myself in. Life is a bitch after all – it’s how we deal with it that matters. I have a lot of beliefs that give me my inner peace, some that you could say are slightly off the wall to many but just as off the wall as believing we are watched over by a man with a grey beard who decides if we live or die. So like I said at the beginning, if I am a little mad then thumbs up to me – I’m happy as long as it provides me with the ability to live my life contentedly alone and with and the world around me. Being alone shouldn’t be a punishment for anyone, and once we learn to live in harmony with ourselves, everything else seems clearer and easier to deal with.

Soul Mates.

As I have said in the past; everything I talk about, I am a student of – and still have a lot to learn in all fields – but I feel it important to talk about and encourage others to join me in my journey of self discovery and enlightenment. We are all connected – I believe this to be true. We have all had the experience of thinking about someone we haven’t seen or spoke to in some time and they turn up or call you on the phone or text out of the blue at that exact moment. We see situations like this as pure coincidence, but what if it’s more than that? What if there is a force working that connects each and every one of us? Have you ever walked into a room and felt the tension or excitement that its occupants are feeling without anyone saying a word? That my friends, is a spiritual connection. The energy we emit from our bodies and minds are more powerful than we realise, and we pick up on them daily without even noticing them. It’s like having our very own built in text service. Look it up, the evidence is all there if we are willing to look, we just need to be willing to look. I know that we can all agree we live in a hectic world of distractions and confusion, and our ability to read or even pick up on the signs of our energy is becoming less and less – unless we take time to practice that is. Meditation is one of the the best ways of getting back in touch with not only ourselves, but each other. Also, a simple 15-20 min peaceful walk can free us up from the grind of the day – even taking a long, warm bath works. If we really want to reconnect, we need to find time. I like people watching. Not with binoculars (no not that kind of watching) – I mean whenever I get the chance I sit myself down on a bench and watch people go past in their daily routine, wondering what kind of day they are having. Sometimes I genuinely feel connections with these random strangers, whether or not I am connected, or it’s just my over-active imagination I’m not sure, but one thing I am sure of is that to me, it’s real and I trust myself enough to believe that anything is possible in this amazing universe of ours if we are willing to keep learning. Being mindful of ourselves, our emotions and feelings helps us connect better with others and the environment around us, and it’s time we started opening our eyes to at least the concept that there are things we don’t know about ourselves or have even forgotten. Human connection exists; if you ever been madly in love then you should know what I mean. You know that feeling when you just look at each other deep in the eyes and instantly know what each other are thinking? You remember that feeling. I could go on and on with examples but at some point I need to stop writing, so before I go – in a nut shell – what I have been trying to say is that the universe is a big place and and without doubt mystical. As humans we are only touching on the edge of our abilities and by being open to that simple idea then our lives can be magical, after all we live the words we speak whether they be strong or weak. We choose the path we go.

Faith

Having faith can turn your life around; it can give you focus, it can give you direction, it can give you meaning. When I talk about faith I’m not talking about religion or religious faith – not at all. When I talk about faith I’m talking about having faith in yourself, faith in your own abilities, faith that no matter what is thrown at you in life: you are strong enough to deal with it. We all need faith in our lives, it gives us hope in a world full of madness. I have faith – I have faith in my own abilities, I have faith that I will achieve my goals and dreams and that the universe is beside me opening doors along the way. Faith can be hard to find but when it’s discovered, hold on to it with all your might and never let it go. People will try and take it away from you, they will belittle you, they will try and get you to have faith in them instead, they will do everything they can to take your personal faith away. Faith is a powerful tool and can be dangerous in the wrong hands: we see that everywhere we look at the moment. We have put faith in others to make the world safer place and we are being let down drastically. The only real faith we need is a personal one and here at Byw we believe that we all deserve it. We are magical beings who can manifest amazing things for ourselves and the the world we inhabit. It all starts with self-belief

The Good the Bad and the Ugly

There are days when all we want to do is give up. You know what I’m talking about, no matter how hard we try or how much work we put in, nothing seems to be going as it should and our batteries are all but running on empty. Yeah, I think you get the picture. So what happens when it’s one of those days? How do we keep that smile and positive focus our main stance? How the f*** do we not lose the plot? Well this one is a tough one to bare; you see it’s ok for me to say “stay strong”, “everything will be ok”, “have belief”, but that isn’t always helpful. At times like this we need to stop; stop everything that we are doing and look at what it is we are trying to achieve. We know life isn’t simple and it’s more of a bitch than we are led to believe, but it’s having the reassurance that no matter what is thrown at us, we can pick ourselves up, say we tried and that today may not be what we needed but tomorrow is brand new and anything can happen. No matter how mindful we try and be, we can still get lost in the stresses of everyday life, trying to juggle responsibilities and dealing with negativity from outside sources. Trying to run before I can walk is one of my faults: I can be a little impatient at times and try and do too much at the same time, hoping that something will stick, but I know more than anyone that the universe doesn’t work like that. It’s easy to get lost in life, it can chew us up and spit us out if we let it. Sometimes we have to stop. Stop and prioritise what’s important. Stop and see how much of what we are worrying about is actually worth worrying about. Stop and take stock of what it is we want and stop the things we don’t want.

Finding courage or self belief isn’t easy on our own, and I find myself fortunate to have an amazing support network and have put in place measures for when life becomes a bitch. I understand that life is good, bad and ugly all at the same time: it’s our reaction to it that depends on it affecting us.
